All about anxiety

​Anxiety continues to be on the rise and is the most common mental health concern in the U.S.  Good news:  it is highly manageable.  At Genuine Self Therapy we understand that at the root of anxiety is uncertainty.  We assist our clients in coping with uncertainty and change their relationship to their thoughts and worries.  Often people will avoid what makes them anxious, such as emotions they are feeling or external situations.  It is as if our efforts to relieve anxiety only make it worse.  We will work with clients to make room for the hard.

Treatment for anxiety

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be helpful to explore thoughts and behaviors that are getting in the way.  We also believe that identifying and feeling emotions can be a helpful tool. Additional CBT-type therapies include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which incorporates mindfulness and acceptance skills.  Self-compassion and identifying one's values and strengths can also compliment the work we do.  We will work with you to explore what approaches will help when coping with uncertainty.
